About Us

We have been involved in the equine industry for 20 years, competing at various local and high-level shows such as the Balmoral Show. We also run our own breeding programme specialising in producing high-quality Irish Sport Horses. As you can imagine, being involved in these activities requires a lot of travelling with our horses.

Over the years, we have witnessed many incidents of horses becoming stuck or trapped over the breast bar at the front of horse trailers. In some cases, these horses have remained in this position for several hours while their owners waited for someone to arrive with the tools and equipment needed to help release them.

It was while we were attending a local pre-Balmoral show in May 2024 that another attendee’s horse became stuck over the breast bar. The horse had been in this position for quite some time, and multiple people had tried unsuccessfully to release it. Eventually, they decided it was best to wait and call for a vet to sedate the horse. At this point, we decided to check if we had any tools that could help release the horse sooner. After assessing the situation, we realised we had nothing suitable to release the horse. However, seeing how stressed the horse had become, and with the owner on the verge of panic, we stepped in to help. By lifting the horse to take the weight off the bar, another person was able to release the breast bar from its position, freeing the horse.

Paul, who runs his own engineering company, began researching if there was anything on the market to assist in such situations. Unfortunately, nothing suitable existed. Having experienced the problem first-hand and recognising that conventional methods of releasing horses were not fit for purpose—especially in emergencies where tools are often not readily available—Paul understood this was an issue that needed to be addressed. He quickly developed a prototype of the ESR Bar. Once the first prototype passed our approval and some testing, we insisted on producing a second ESR Bar, and both were fitted into our own horse trailer.

Since fitting these ESR Bars, we have felt much more peace of mind while travelling with our horses and believe they are an essential addition for anyone who transports horses by trailer. We are now producing these bars so others can benefit from the same reassurance, knowing that in the event of a horse becoming stuck over the breast bar, there is a quick and simple way to release it without the need for tools or specialist equipment.

From one horse lover to another, you’re welcome.
