Is there a right or wrong way for the standard breast bar to be fitted into a horse trailer?

No, there is no specific way to fit a standard breast bar.  

If an ESR Bar has been fitted to your Horse trailer it would be recommended to fit the ESR Bar with the emergency pin towards the centre of the horse trailer to allow for easy reach and function from behind the middle partition, by fitting the ESR Bar this way you can still avail of any other safety features your horse trailer may have.
